Favorites - Hair Products

I'm starting a new little "series"

Once a month I'm going to do a post on some of my favorite things, whether its hair and beauty products, clothes, cleaning products, foods, etc.

To kick off this series I'm going to start with my favorite hair products.

I decided to pair brands together to keep it a little more simple for you!
Now first things first...I'm sure you've been told this (probably by me) but DO NOT buy hair products from Walmart, target, TJ Max, etc....It is NOT the same thing you get from a salon!

My mom actually did it years ago when Walmart started carying "Paul Mitchell" products, and guess what...It wasn't the same as what she got from our stylist.
Ulta, Sephora, Beauty Brands, places like that are fine, but I recommend buying from your stylist, they put the work into picking out the right products for you so I'm sure they'd appreciate your business😊.

Moroccan Oil
Starting from left to right.

Smoothing Lotion - This is one of my favorite must haves!! It is great for any hair type and oh my gosh you're hair feels so great when you add this into your styling routine.

Moroccan Oil Light (if you have thin or blonde hair you want the light, if you have thick and/or dark hair the original Oil will be perfect for you!)

Beach Wave Mouse - I'm not a huge mouse person but I had clients that use this and love it and I like to use it on occasion.
Root Boost - This one is hit or miss for me. As far as root boost products go it's among my favorites.
That being said I'm one of those people that doesn't like my hair to feel weighed down with product and this is one of those one that a little goes along way.

Thickening Lotion - This is an absolute favorite! It is amazing for all of us thin fine haired ladies, It helps give you a little more body, etc. without weighing your hair down!

Medium Hold Gel - Hands down one of my FAVORITE gels out of all the product lines I've used. They have a medium and strong hold, for thin fine haired ladies the medium works great, you only need about a dime size or less when you blow dry.
This is one that people often overlook in their styling routine but it makes a big difference in how your hair is going to hold what style you're going for.
The strong hold works great if you have shorter hair where you want a little more hold to your style, or if you have thick hair.

Dry Shampoo - I was always a dry shampoo hater...I tried so many different brands and styles of dry shampoo and I hated them all! I had a client that I started getting this one for and after hearing her rave reviews on it I decided to give it a try myself and oh my goodness I'm hooked!

Colorproof
This is a newer one for me but quickly became a favorite.
Starting left to right.
LiftIt foam - Basically another root booster.
Compared to the Moroccan Oil Root Boost its very similar! I honestly think I like them both equally or maybe the color proof just a tad more.

Leave in Treatment - One thing I love about this one is a little bit goes a long way! I've had this bottle for months and haven't put much a dent in it yet, I probably use this one twice a week (I was my hair about 4 times a week) It will weight your hair down a little so if I have something going on where I want volume I'll usually leave this one out of the routine that day.

Superpump - Ahh...They came out with this one and took it back off the shelves for MONTHS! it just finally came back thank heavens! Almost every client I would use this on instantly fell in love! It can be a little heavy if you're not careful but oh my does it have so much hold and volume!
This is one that does the work of a root boost and a gel all in one, so if you're on the hunt but don't want to buy as many products I would get this.

Control Craze Styling Cream - This is another one of those ones with a super light hold thats great if you don't like the feeling of a lot of product in your hair, This is not a smoothing product though, you'll still want to add that into your routine, but you could use this in place of a gel or mouse.

Sea Sugar Spray - I've tried many Sugar/Salt sprays and have liked most actually but this one went to the top of the list! Its great if you want to just let your hair air dry or coming from the pool, just spray in, scrunch it up and let it go!

Blow Dry Cream - Now to be honest after using the moroccan oil smoothing cream its really hard to beat that one...This one did come in a close second though and I do like it a lot better than some other smoothing creams I've used, the perks with this one is it has a great list of ingredients (especially the ones that AREN'T added) so if you're trying to go a more natural route it would be a great alternative.

Anti Frizz spray - Now this product I received free and I honestly haven't used it much, Thankfully I don't deal with a much frizz so its not something I need all the time. I have added it though when I'm styling peoples hair, especially Updo styles.

Texture finishing spray - This is another one I got free with some other products but I'm glad I did! I'm not a big strong hold hairspray lover...That killed all my clients over the age of 30😂.
Now this one does have a strong scent...but I love the way it works! I get a little more left and just a little hold while I can still get my fingers through my hair.

Kenra
This ones surprisingly small. I've used probably a good 80% of Kenra products over the years though .
If you're looking at price points, this is a great option for you to keep out of the aisle of Walmart without breaking the bank.

Texture Taffy - Oh my...my absolute FAVORITE, I've tried so many different taffy's or whips and this wins every time. its the perfect amount of tackiness, especially with shorter hair.

Texture Spray - Honestly this one is right up there with the color proof texture finishing spray.
So again if you're looking at budget and not so much ingredients this is a perfect solution.

Blow Dry Spray - Ive been using this one for years and its a staple!
This is a heat protectant (which is an absolute MUST, you never want to put any kind of heat on your hair without some sort of barrier) and it makes your hair dry faster...And let me tell you I've tested this theory using/not using it on myself and clients and I really do feel like it cuts down on your drying time.
And it smells amazing, thats always a bonus.

Volume Spray 25 Hold - As much as I don't love strong spray for myself...This is hands down my favorite to use on everyone else! (Even me on occasion😉) This was always a big seller with my clients as well, I don't think I ever met anyone that didn't like this one!

Aveda
My Aveda product list is small...To be honest its still an absolute favorite and if I could have ever been Aveda salon I would have jumped at it in a heart beat! But I felt like I needed to be using on myself what I used on my clients so I could give a true opinion.
Starting left to right.
Calming Oil - I've had this one for years, Its not one I use often but it works great to add to your bath at the end of the day.
Cooling Oil - This ones an absolute favorite, It works great to rub on your temples if you have a headache, around your nose if you're having sinus issues, and just in general its a good wake me up!

Smoothing Fluid - This was one of my favorites.
Its a lot like the moroccan oil, you put it on when your finished styling to Smooth everything out, and like all Aveda products it smells amazing.

Dry Remedy oil - Soo I've had this one since school...😂 honestly such a tiny amount goes so far it has lasted me that long! I like to use it now on the nights before I'm going to wash my hair and put as much as possible on my ends to let it sit all night.

Phomollient - Hands down...my favorite volumizing product. Because its such a light foam it never feels heavy on your hair and it works so great! For all my fine haired friends its going to do wonders! and again...That Aveda smell.

Air Control - As far as lighter hold hairsprays go this is my go to!

A few randoms...
If I haven't already talked about Sudsy Soap Cakes...It's about time I start! This is our family friends business that they've had since 1982! Not even kidding its the only soap I've used my entire life and its all I ever plan on using. Over the years they've added a few more products and these Jojoba oils are one of them, we have one in lavender and one in peppermint.
They're great to add to your hair, beard, or on your skin.

Wella Flexible volumizing spray - I haven't used this one a ton but what I have used of it I totally love it!

The ultimate blonde spray is not for retail sales...but If you ask your stylist I'm sure they could find you something similar! It's a purple spray I use every time or two when I wash to help tone out the brassiness of the blonde.

Obviously I have a lotion problem...😂😂
I would have to say my favorites are the Hempz lotions though.

Some new finds or replacements. The Hempz White Sangria and Dragonfruit Spritzer is a new favorite and I've been using it like crazy!
I decided to try out a new brand...the Maria nila and to be honest I hate it, even Joe hates it! I won't be getting it again.
And the Colorproof Volumixing shampoo oh my...I have used all of Colorproof's different shampoo/conditioners and I love them all! It's definitely a little pricier but a little goes a long way so in my opinion its totally worth shelling out the money.
I did have one client that had pretty thick hair it didn't work great on her but everyone else including myself and family that have used it love it.

If you're every looking for a good solution to store your hair or beauty supplies look at goodwill or places like it for old spice racks! I found this one at goodwill for $3, gave it a coat of paint and its perfect! (I actually had this in the salon...so I need to repaint it to match the bathroom, but I like the pink for now😉).

To break it down...I love ALL of these products. BUT if you're wanting to keep the budget a little lower and the medicine cabinet a little less cluttered here's my go to must haves.

If you have any suggestions of your absolute favorite products or any questions on what to get or how to use it feel free to message me I would love to help you!

Homemade Taco Seasoning

The other day I whipped up another batch of homemade taco seasoning that I’ve been making for years so I thought I would share it with you. It’s super easy, last a long time, and doesn’t have any of the icky preservatives, etc. Here’s the ingredients, 1/2 cup chili powder 3 Tablespoons cumin 1 Tablespoon salt 1 Tablespoon finely ground pepper 1 Tablespoon paprika 2 teaspoons garlic powder 2 teaspoons onion powder 2 teaspoons dried oregano Mix it all together and you’re good to go! To use, brown 1lb. hamburger,  then add 2 Tablespoons of the taco seasoning mix plus 1/3 cup water and simmer until liquid has thickened, about 1-2 minutes. I hope you enjoy!

Instant Pot Spaghetti

Instant Pot Spaghetti  Start by turning your instant pot to the sauté function, adding some olive oil and then once the screen says HOT add your hamburger and brown.  All of the spices I used. Once the hamburger is browned Turn the instant pot off. Once I turned the instant pot off I added the noodles, crisscrossing the noodles so they don't clump. Next I added the spaghetti sauce, water, and spices.  Then set the instant pot to manual for 10 minutes and did natural release. And finished product!  I turned the instant pot off, put the lid back on and let it cool a little once I mixed everything together. I used this for freezer meals. I was able to get 7 1 1/2 cup servings. I let these cool and then put them in the fridge and waited to put them in the freezer until the next day so it was completely cooled. Ingredients: Olive Oil 1 lb hamburger 2 jars pasta sauce 1 16oz box angel hair noodles 1 cup + 1 jar of Wa
